4 Apr 2011: Wipro may be forced to rethink its strategy to score over TCS, Infosys
With over a dozen small and large acquisitions in the last 10 years, Wipro has pursued inorganic growth more aggressively than its peers.
The past financial performance suggests that Wipro has lagged behind its bigger peers TCS and Infosys, who have largely relied on organic growth. And with Cognizant, a relatively smaller player, closing in fast, Wipro's top brass may be forced to rethink its strategy.
4 Apr 2011: Wipro's media & telecom head Fleming quits
Mark Fleming, head of Wipro's global media and telecom strategic business unit (SBU), is exiting the company. Ayan Mukerji, a long-time Wipro hand, has been appointed Senior Vice President & Head - Global Media and Telecom in Fleming's place.
Prior to this, Mukerji was heading the product engineering services (PES) service line. Sanjay Gupta, another long timer, will fill in for Mukerji. He has been appointed Senior Vice President & Head of the PES service line. Both Mukerji and Gupta will report to CEO Kurien.
31 Mar 2011: India to leverage IBM's $38 mn investment in APAC data centre
IBM announced a $ 38 million investment to set up a data centre in Singapore that will provide businesses in India with solutions and services for cloud computing. Scheduled to launch in April, the new Centre will make available IBM's cloud services and technology portfolio.
31 Mar 2011: Cognizant to provide finance and accounting services to Volvo
Cognizant has been selected to provide finance and accounting services to luxury car maker Volvo Car Corporation. Cognizant would participate in entire value chain of Finance and Accounting services to Volvo Car Corporation in ranging from accounts payables, receivables and fixed assets, to accounting and periodic end closing along with procurement services for production and non-production materials.
29 Mar 2011: Cognizant bags contract from Marks & Spencer
Cognizant said it would offer end-to-end integrated applications and infrastructure management services to United Kingdom based retailer Marks and Spencers.
As part of multi-year managed services contract, Cognizant would provide end-to-end integrated applications and infrastructure management services to Marks and Spencers covering business and functional areas -- procurement, supply chain, forecasting, sales and financial management.
